2009 Visiting Artists and Scholars Lecture Series

The College of Visual Arts, Theatre & Dance Presents: Visiting Artists and Scholars Lecture Series. Dean Sally McRorie announces a lecture series in the College of Visual Arts Theatre and Dance devoted to distinguished figures in the arts. The series is funded by a generous gift from the late Vincent and Mary Agnes Thursby. See the Calendar.

27th Annual Graduate Student Symposium Keynote Speaker Announced

Dr. Alexander Nemerov, Ph.D.Yale University, has been announced as the 27th Annual Graduate Student Symposium speaker. Nemerov will open the symposium with “Art and Daily Life: A Case from 1863” on October 23, 2009 at 5:30 in Room 249.

Student papers begin Oct. 23, 3:00 PM, and Oct. 24, 9:30 AM Papers will be presented on a variety of topics by graduate students visiting from ten universities nationwide. All are welcome to attend.

Theatre Alumna Kathleen Smith Belcher Makes Metropolitan Opera Directing Debut

Theatre alumna Kathleen Smith Belcher has another amazing achievement on her hands! The October 6 opening of the production of "Il Barbiere di Siviglia" was her directing debut at the Metropolitan Opera. The marvelous production was described by the NY Times as "a pitch-perfect interpretation of the dazzling display and abundant wit in Rossini’s work. If the Met currently has a sure-fire hit, this delicious lark is it."

Baryshnikov Arts Center and the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art Gear up for the inaugural Ringling International Arts Festival

New York’s Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) and the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, Florida, put finishing touches in place for the launch of the Ringling International Arts Festival. The festival will take place throughout the Ringling Museum of Art’s 66-acre waterfront cultural estate on Sarasota Bay, October 7-11, 2009.

Music Theatre Alum, Montego Glover, to Star in Memphis on Broadway

Montego Glover will be starring in the new Broadway musical Memphis, which is scheduled to open on October 19, 2009. Fellow Music Theatre alum, Kevin Covert, will also be performing in the production.
